- Urban policies and the built environments they shape have a powerful impact on residents’ access to employment and services, their travel behaviours, and exposures to health risks such as physical inactivity, traffic hazards and air pollution (Giles-Corti et al. 2016). In the face of rapid urbanisation, globally there is growing research and policy efforts directed towards planning liveable, healthy and sustainable urban environments (World Health Organization & UN-Habitat 2016). This book contributes to this work, outlining research evidence on current and historical urban development patterns, and their relationship with travel behaviour, resident satisfaction and specific health risk factors.The book has seven chapters, which traverse a broad range of topics and urban scenarios.
