- This edited collection, with 33 contributing authors, showcases diverse examples of the mixed economy of contemporary affordable housing provision. Using a comparative case study approach, illustrations are drawn from continental Europe, the UK and, to a more limited extent, the USA and Australia.The book’s central focus is on how rental housing or jointly resident-owned (cooperative) housing is being produced and/or managed with the involvement of blends of state, third sector, community and market-based institutions and actors. This is referred to as a hybrid system of housing provision.The concept of hybridity, as increasingly featured in the housing literature (see especially Housing Studies Special Issue Volume 27, Number 4, 2012), is the core thematic overlay of the book.
