- 摘要
- The “Pittsburgh renaissance” is a celebrated portrayal of transformation from a “rust belt” economy into a dynamic “brain belt” success story. Pittsburgh has been proffered as an aspirational prototype for Adelaide as it addresses the decline of its own manufacturing economy. Aspects of the Pittsburgh story are indeed compelling, but Pittsburgh does not provide a wholly positive model for Adelaide’s future. Its renaissance has been overstated and romanticised. Its celebrants take insufficient account of the continuing social devastation and inequity prevailing across Pittsburgh’s metropolitan and hinterland economy. Adelaide is better placed to be manoeuvred towards a more equitable economic future.“匹兹堡复兴“是从”铁锈地带“经济向“智囊地带”转型的著名成功范例。匹兹堡成为阿德莱德的先进榜样,激励阿德莱德应对其衰落的制造业经济。匹兹堡的经验的确有难以抗拒的魅力,但对于阿德莱德的未来,它提供的并非全都是积极的样板。匹兹堡的复兴被夸大并美化了。对匹兹堡长期的社会问题以及城市和贫困地区经济中普遍存在的不平等,那里的主导者总是一带而过。阿德莱德更有希望建设经济更为平等的未来。KEYWORDS: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Adelaide, South Australia, rust belt, brain belt, economic restructuringAdditional informationFundingInitial financial support for this work from the South Australian Department of the Premier and Cabinet is gratefully acknowledged, as are helpful comments by Emil Bolongaita, Don DeBats and this journal’s anonymous referees.Disclosure statementProfessor Parkin was occasionally involved, prior to and during his 2007-2017 term as Flinders University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), in liaising on behalf of Flinders University with Carnegie Mellon University (an institutional actor in the narrative encompassed within this paper).
