摘要
Until now, we have mostly focused on long-established twin cities, whose identities and interactions are partly born of historical trajectory. Here, we turn not just to another continent but mostly to newer, consciously created and managed pairings. Like several following chapters, the approach is heavily comparative, with 20 twins under review. Indian twin cities are generally far larger than those featured thus far, with their relationship directly born of burgeoning urbanisation, indeed conurbanity. Unlike those reviewed until now, but like many of the international border pairs from Chapter 10 onwards, their relationship is expected to become positive and functional from the point of twin-city declaration. Even in Indian twin cities whose relationship was initially customary rather than declared, the expectation of positivity and planning has become increasingly powerful.
